 Refurbished laptops typically, consist of laptop computers that have been used in offices for a couple of years before being replaced by newer laptops. The outgoing laptops are purchased in bulk by a refurbishing company, which data wipes the hard drive, checks to ensure the specification is correct and that everything works as it should. Any problems are sorted out, parts replaced where needed and the laptop has its software & operating system reinstalled, & is repackaged for sale. These make excellent cheap laptops.
Surplus stock are usually cancelled orders or maybe a newer laptop model is due out; & usually these laptops have never left the box. Buying these laptops is no more risky than buying a new laptop from a shop shelf, as they come with a full manufacturer's warranty.
Ex demo laptops & open box laptops are when companies send laptops to magazines to be reviewed, to computer shows, showrooms & shops for demonstrations. These can't be sold as new laptops, so the manufacturers sell them as refurbished laptops with a healthy discount on the regular price.
